It’s a given that all of us want the best and highest GoogleツPage Rank for our sites and it’s content. Bragging rights, increased traffic, and definitely more Adsense revenue (you can stop smiling now). A webmaster’s dream! But does your site/blog have what it takes to get index and eventually ranked? With this in mind I’d like to share some SEO tips I’ve learned just this week. Enjoy!

Two kinds of SEO – Onpage and Offpage

There are actually two kinds of SEO – onpage and offpage SEO. Onpage SEO deals with small changes to your website content and how you format them to make them enticing enough for the Google crawler to mark your site and possibly increase your page ranking. Offpage SEO is simply this: LINK LOVE. Spread it. Tell everyone about your site. ツBut I’ll concentrate more on onpage optimization, since it is the most popularツmethod used by SEO sharks… I mean SEO professionals.

Onpage Optimization

  1. Select at least three keywords your site/blog will focus on. Add them to your meta tags located in between the head tag of your site/blog.
  2. Subtley include your keyword into your site/blog title. Don’t overload your title with the keywords though. Not only does it look bad, but Google will mark your site as a SEO keyword whore and will hurt your ranking more. So again subtley is key.
  3. Use <h1> and <h2> tags to emphasize your site/blog title and content headings with your keywords. If your using a popular blogging platform like Blogger or Wordpress, the platform already does this for you.ツ
  4. Bolding, Italicizing, and Underlining your keywords can do wonders for your content. Again do not abuse this. Once per keyword is enough.
  5. Place your keywords in the alt tags of your pictures. More tastefully placed keywords = good. And
  6. Rearrange your content to allow the Google (or any search engine) crawler to read your content first. Crawlers generally go through pages from the top left to bottom right. So ensure that your content gets read first before any element in your site/blog, not doing so will hurt your chances of a good ranking.
I hope that helps boost your rankings a bit and maybe you’ll even get to see your pages listed in the top 10 Google results next time you search for your keywords! Happy SEOing!
