I always tell myself that Cosplays (Costume Play) events are one of many events that lure the nerds and annoying fanboys and inject their Nerdism (I know, not a word) into the populace. And I was right. The guys were all over the place! But unlike Magic the Gathering tourneys and events where nerdy guys dominate, Cosplays are (thankfully) counterbalanced with girls and women who like to strut their stuff and dominate in the Cosplay events and contests!

The CosMania Event

The CosPlay I attended earlier today was the CosMania 2008 held at the SM Mega Mall Trade Hall. The main event of the cosplay is the cosplay contest. Doh! Groups and individuals perform on stage in their costumes hoping to grab a prize so insignificant in value compared to the total cost of their costumes. For the glory and recognition! Yeah! The contestants sport the costumes of their favorite Anime shows and even online multiplayer games! Characters from the Power Rangers, Star Wars, Naruto, Ragnarok, even Linage 2 and Counter-Strike were present! If they weren’t, I’m sorry I wasn’t pying attention. Yeah!

Raffles were present of course. Everyone loves prizes! Although… I don’t quite remember the prizes that were given away… Nor did I stay long enough to hear the announcement of the winners. Yeah!

Toy, gaming and cosplay booths littered the trade hall. The wares were the typical stuff you would find in toy conventions, but there were more anime paraphernalia and gaming related booths. There was even a Linage 2 tournament running concurrently with the cosplay!

That’s me with Selphie and Rinoa from the Final Fantasy 8 game! The girl in the Selphie costume is actually my older sister and the girl to the right is her best friend from college.
