Yehey! I was finally able to purchase an DSLR from a friend’s friend! The Canon 350D! It’s prehistoric at 3 years old, but it fits my minuscule budget and skills! Hahaha!
The camera came with a Canon EF 50mm 1.8 (whatever that means), a battery grip complete with Sanyo 2500 mah batteries, and the normal support CD’s and cables!
Like a kid with a new toy, I removed the camera from it and started fiddling with the 20+ strange looking buttons. Totally different from the typical point and shoot camera, the DSLR is heavy and bulky. All this happened while I was listening to a priest talking and christening my cousin’s first child! Yep, in a church. Hahaha!
Here are the rest of my amateurish attempts:

1Ey Ron! Nice shots dude, looks to me like you have the knack for it.
You'll get into the swing of it all before you know it. Its actually pretty simple.
Here are a few things to remember:
~ Don't forget headroom, for farther/portrait shots, I try and keep the heads of the subject (if people) 1/3 from the top.
~Higher ISO means that light sources register faster. For night time shots I'd use ISO1200-1600. Even without flash and 0.3-0.5 shutter speed the shot will come across with decent light, if not just a little dark. Another way to go about it is using extended exposure, but there will be a difference because movement will cause blurring in the form of streaks. For extended exposure shots, or multiple exposure shots, use a low ISO, and prolonged shutter speed. Ex: ISO 100 / 5 Second exposure (no flash) during the day, and perhaps ISO100 / 5 (or more) seconds exposure with flash.
Try experimenting with the settings (like the above examples)
Oh yeah, and getting yourself a separate flash unit would help, because you can make the flash come from a separate angle from the camera, and you can also use it to flash late, or earlier, for special shots like extended exposure.
Check out the photos in my folio,
I took those with a Olympus OM-10 Analog (circa 1970-75) I learned from scratch, you can too man!

Pero sure, I'll try them ONCE I know what all the buttons mean! Hahahaha!
My shots were a bit close cuz my lens can't zoom, it stuck at 50mm. hahaha!
Thanks for the tips!

5you won't be able to buy a new computer any time soon hahaha..
accessories, flash, lens, new body lol. they're all too good. Good for you on getting a Canon… I'm a Nikon guy so low light shots are definitely a bummer for me.

8Well if it's a bag you're looking for, look up Case Logic ones via the SM dept store. It's about 1K -1.2K for one that fits our (my D40 and your 350D) cameras' form factor. Will post a pic later.. sleepy ~_~
