WPMU

I finally installed the Wordpress Multi-user (WPMU) on one of my owned domains! Big plans for that site!

Things I’ve learned during the installation:

  • Unlike a normal Wordpress (WP) installation, you do NOT touch the wp-config-sample.
  • If you’re installing WPMU as a subdomain or subdirectory, e.g. sub.rondelrosario.com or rondelrosario.com/sub, and you have a normal WP blog in the root directory, temporarily rename the wp-config.php of your main blog and point your browser to the WPMU path again, the installation should pop up and get you running!  My Google keyword to solving the problem was ” shared hosting wpmu“. It took half a day getting the right keywords for the correct result. A million thanks to Ankur for the unusual solution to a common WPMU problem!
  • The WPMU support forums are full of misleading advice. Let me rephrase that, 50% misleading. I was able to siphon some good information like the wildcard idea.
  • Bluehost told me that DNS wildcards are not allowed. Well I got mine to work, hope that’s ok with them.

Some problems I encountered during installation:

  • PHP Warning: constant() [function.constant]: Couldn’t find constant VHOST in …. \sitename\wpmu-settings.php on line 54
  • No WPMU site defined on this host.

The site with WpMu isn’t user ready, so no linky yet! :D
