The Update to WordPress 2.8, WordCamp Philippines and Philippines Independence Day 2009!

Yay for WordPress! WordPress is now 2.8 and looks so so fine! The plugins page new layout was shocking but it’s nothing I can’t get used to. Here are the update highlights from WordPress:

  • New drag-and-drop widgets admin interface and new widgets API
  • Syntax highlighting and function lookup built into plugin and theme editors
  • Browse the theme directory and install themes from the admin
  • Allow the dashboard widgets to be arranged in up to four columns
  • Allow configuring the number of items to show on management pages with an option in Screen Options
  • Support timezones and automatic daylight savings time adjustment
  • Support IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite Module
  • Faster loading of admin pages via script compression and concatenation

Read the full change log at the WordPress 2.8 update page.

WordCamp Philippines 2009

It’s finally back! Now with a definite date and venue, I finally get to see Ma.tt! WordCamp will happen September 19 at the Asian Institute of Management in Makati. Unlike the last WordCamp, this year’s event will NOT be a free event. It may suck for most Pinoys, but keep in mind that almost all WordCamps around the world are paid events. Also, paying for the event guarantees (almost anyway) a good venue, food and shirt.

Happy Independence Day to all Filipinos!

Let’s take some time off to remember what our countrymen have done for us in the past and think of ways to help alleviate our country from it’s troubles. We need to stop blaming our government for it’s inadequacies and start contributing to society.

P.S.

I don’t know if it’s just FireFox but I can’t seem to use my upload pictures feature in the Add New Post module, my browser keeps crashing once the thickbox starts loading… I hope the WordPress’ 2.8 update to jQuery 1.3.2 will fix the problem. In the mean time I’ll try turning off my FireFox add-ons and try again.

Another problem I’m having is that my WordPress installation tells me I have 2000+ comments that need moderation! I guessing that my WP installation is counting the spam as well…

If you guys have the same problems or have solutions to my problems please comment below!
