Dusit International has strengthened its foothold in Myanmar by launching two new properties in Yangon. The company has introduced The Strand Hotel Yangon – Dusit Collection and ASAI Yangon Sule, each offering a unique blend of traditional luxury and modern lifestyle accommodations, infused with the group’s signature Thai-inspired hospitality.

A New Chapter for a Historic Landmark

Situated on Strand Road, overlooking the Yangon River, this three-storey property boasts Victorian-era architecture, complete with high ceilings and polished Burmese teak floors adorned with marble accents. A meticulous restoration process, aided by local artisans, has carefully preserved the building’s original features, incorporating traditional lacquerware, handcrafted rattan furnishings, and artworks that showcase Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage.

With a history spanning 125 years, The Strand Hotel has played a significant role in Yangon’s social and cultural environment. Originally opened in 1901, the hotel was later acquired by the Sarkies brothers, who also owned notable properties like Raffles Singapore and the Eastern & Oriental Hotel in Penang. In 2019, The Strand received a commemorative blue plaque from the Yangon Heritage Trust, recognizing its historical importance.

The hotel features 32 luxurious suites, ranging in size from 55 to 200 square meters. The largest suite, the Strand Suite, boasts a four-poster bed, spacious living areas, and a private dining room that can accommodate up to eight guests. Each suite comes with dedicated 24-hour butler service, ensuring a personalized experience for guests. Dining options include The Strand Café, which serves a mix of Burmese specialties and international cuisine, as well as the traditional Strand High Tea, and Sarkies Bar, offering an array of cocktails, single malt whiskies, grilled dishes, and sharing plates.

Later this year, The Strand Restaurant is set to open, introducing a fine dining experience that showcases the best of Burmese cuisine, using locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant will have a capacity of 45 guests, with an additional private dining room for 10. Other amenities include an outdoor swimming pool, fitness facilities, a spa, and a beautifully landscaped courtyard. For events, the property offers the 760 square meter Strand Hall, which can accommodate up to 720 guests for banquets, as well as The Strand Garden and private dining venues.

Adopting Contemporary Lifestyle

ASAI Yangon Sule, operating under the ASAI Hotels brand, is situated on Alan Pya Pagoda Street in downtown Yangon. The property, formerly known as the Thamada Hotel, was relaunched in 2017 as a contemporary lifestyle hotel. Reflecting the ASAI Hotels philosophy of “Live Local,” the hotel is strategically located near Yangon Central Railway Station, Bogyoke Aung San Market, Shwedagon Pagoda, and the city’s historic streets and local dining establishments, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the local culture.

The hotel boasts 85 guestrooms, ranging in size from 15 to 30 square meters, equipped with modern amenities and offering city or courtyard views. The on-site dining venue, Babette Eatery & Bar, serves Western comfort food in a relaxed atmosphere, complete with an outdoor terrace. The restaurant can also accommodate private events with advance notice. Additional facilities include a fitness center and a community lounge, designed for both work and informal gatherings.
