The Royal Swazi Spa in Eswatini’s Ezulwini Valley will reopen before the end of December 2026, concluding a prolonged closure and extensive refurbishment. The initiative, supported by equity partners such as the Public Service Pensions Fund (PSPF) and Tibiyo TakaNgwane, seeks to reposition the resort as a leading destination for both leisure and business travelers in Eswatini.

Originally established in 1965, the Ezulwini Valley property has served as a foundation of Eswatini’s tourism sector, providing lodging, conference spaces, and an 18-hole golf course. Its temporary shutdown created a noticeable absence in the valley’s hospitality industry, and the reopening is intended to revitalize tourism and economic growth in the area.

Investors highlight the resort’s potential to enhance golf tourism, attract business travelers, and stimulate broader spending among visitors. The Eswatini Tourism Authority has linked the project to the national Visit Eswatini initiative, which promotes high-end leisure experiences. A successful relaunch could reintroduce a major accommodation center for tourists and conference participants, helping to invigorate the Ezulwini region.

Oversight of the refurbishment falls to the PSPF, with CEO Masotja Vilakati stressing the commitment to meeting global hospitality standards. Meanwhile, Tibiyo TakaNgwane, led by managing director Absalom Themba Dlamini, has advanced negotiations with international hotel management firms to ensure the resort’s long-term operational success.

The economic benefits of the reopening will extend well beyond the resort’s gates. Backers anticipate job creation across hotel operations, food and beverage services, landscaping, entertainment, and supply chains. These developments could also strengthen local transport services, markets, and community businesses in the valley, which have historically depended on tourism revenue.

Beyond its economic role, the Royal Swazi Spa carries deep cultural significance for many Emaswati. Over the years, the resort hosted family gatherings, sports events, and regional celebrations, making its return a moment of renewed pride. The emotional connection to its history, from the golf course to its social venues, adds to the importance of its revival.

Final preparations and operational planning are still under way, and further updates are expected in the coming weeks. Even so, the planned reopening is already being watched as one of the most important tourism developments in Eswatini this year, with the potential to restore a familiar hospitality landmark while reinforcing the country’s wider visitor appeal.
